New Venture in Digital Manufacturing for Quality Assurance Organization

A global testing, inspection, and certification company was experiencing slow growth relatively to its peers. The company served customers in over 100 countries and across all industries. To increase growth, they wanted to expand into the emergent market of digital manufacturing technologies. The company wanted to define a business strategy and tactical priorities that established them as leaders in the validation and verification for digital manufacturing technologies.

NOVA MACHINA led a team of strategist and engineers in creating a digital manufacturing strategy and in winning board approval. The strategy focused the company on additive manufacturing, automation/sensors, and supply chain digitization. It focused on increasing confidence between transacting parties in manufacturing that the products fabricated using emergent technologies met specification, standards, and regulations. This entailed ensuring that geometric designs for products, material characteristics, process characteristics, and their confounding factors were verified and validated. This also entailed examining physical factors of processes and materials, and digital factors of design/simulation software and machine controls. It also consisted of ensuring that qualified people used the manufacturing technology.

NOVA MACHINA led the implementation of the business strategy and managed the digital manufacturing technologies business for the company. They provided technical support to major medical device, aerospace, automotive, electrical/electronic, and consumer products manufacturers. This support consisted of building confidence that the manufacturers’ products met the evolving standards and regulations from governing bodies. NOVA MACHINA also supported the organization in providing expert advice to government agencies to build regulatory frameworks that protected their constituents while allowing growth in innovation. These agencies included the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the European Aviation Safety Agency, the National Medical Products Administration in China, and others.
